Shift Officer Austin Champion joined Evans Valley Fire District #6 in 2022 and is known for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving the Evans Valley community. His fire service journey began over four years ago with Rural Metro Fire in Josephine County.

Before joining the fire service, Austin spent many years in the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout — an experience that helped shape his commitment to teamwork and public service.

Austin is a certified Firefighter and EMT, holding an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Rogue Community College. He recently completed his Paramedic internship and is in the process of obtaining his national Paramedic license and certification. Among his career highlights are completing his Fire Science degree and successfully finishing the intensive year-long Paramedic program at RCC.

A lifelong Southern Oregon resident, Austin’s roots in the region go back generations. Having attended the same high school as his parents, he takes great pride in serving the Evans Valley community where he first volunteered as a firefighter.

Outside of his work in the fire service, Austin enjoys spending time with his family, including his four younger siblings, training his Golden Retriever, Hana, and exploring the outdoors with his girlfriend.

Austin is honored to serve alongside the dedicated members of Evans Valley Fire District #6 and to contribute to the District’s mission of protecting lives, property, and the community. He looks forward to continuing his growth in the fire service while helping protect and serve the residents of Evans Valley.
